Icom Desktop microphone SM-26

The original item was purchased (via Navboys) as a result of multiple failures/problems (man made) with the standard hand microphones. In our club enviroment users tend to view the microphone as an 'exercise aid' and stretch the lead to its limit whenever possible. Following a number of new replacement handmics. The latest of which lasted only two months ( users had now perfected the exercise routine)! The decision was made to use the Desktop Microphone mounted through the operators desk (nailed down). To make things simple the left hand switch is taped up so operators only need to press the right hand button and speak. Nearly two years on we have experienced no problems (other than incoherent operators), and the construction seems quite rugged so far. The speech quality is excellent. Operationally we talk to military air traffic controllers who always report us as 'loud and clear strength five', which is a testament to both the Microphone and the ICOM A110E radio.
'I would certainly recommend this item in a multi user club enviroment'.
